For you, Charlsie. If possible, listen to it in space. :)

Shower Song

November 10th, 2009 by sopiemunky

So I was enjoying a shower and this song came into my head. I only made one loop for the background and then just improvised with piano (actually, it sounds like some kind of weird 80’s electronic pan-flute or something) over it. So there are only two instruments going at once. It’s super sloppy because I didn’t feel like editing it. I liked it the way it was. There is a part at the end when the loop stops and I am clicking all over the place in Reason while still trying to keep the song going and trying to make the song longer so that I can keep playing! It was super crazy, but it was fun! Then I lost my train of thought and had to kill it.  The part where the loop finishes reminds me of those Qatsi movies.

Scrambles

I have a CD I made a few months ago that I have been playing in my car since then. I don’t like to change CDs much. This is track 3 on that CD. It’s from a band called Bomb the Music Industry!. I wasn’t too familiar with this band when I put this song on there, but it was a good choice. Most of their songs are pure baddassery. They played at Harvest of Whatever down in Florida. I didn’t go. I don’t know what I did instead. Oh, yeah. I think I watched all of X-Men: Evolution that week. It was pretty good, but I think you could live without seeing it. Rogue had a crush on Cyclops in high school, but Cyclops started dating Phoenix! OMG! There’s some newer X-Men cartoons to watch now. I couldn’t tell you anything about them. I hope this song finishes uploading soon. I got some stuff I could go do. Mostly take a shower. I guess I could take a shower and come back later, but I’m worried that if I move I will lose the internet connection. We’re using this school system internet from across the street, and it seems pretty picky about where it wants people to sit.

Hello, Seattle

Ocean Eyes

Yeah! From what I hear, this guy sucks so hard that it’s cool. This is a song Daniel Bendorf has been listening to, in case you were wondering what he’s been doing. That picture on the album cover is not the Burj Dubai, either. It’s the Burj Al Arab which I’m not even sure was ever built. Maybe it was. I can’t be too sure that Dubai ever really existed. I met some little girl that said she was from there, but kids never know what they are talking about. I heard that the state went nigh bankrupt lately, but that was probably rumour since the place doesn’t exist. The asshole from Relient K and this guy (Owl City) are supposed to be making music under the name Goodbye Dubai, though, which I can appreciate.

One of the best instrumental bands you may have never heard of.

August 30th, 2009 by Dissonant

Some instrumental bands seem to challenge you to enjoy their music, with esoteric breaks or introductions (e.g. Godspeed!) mind-numbing, chaotic tempos that many consider nothing more than noise (see Hella) or bars and bars of repetitious, monotonous, at times boring songs (nearly all bands have been guilty of this a time or two). Bands like these are frequently only enjoyed by a select group of people. Such is not the case with Piglet. Hailing from Chicago, this long-defunct trio (Ezra Sandzer-Bell, Asher Weisberg, Matt Parrish) released only one album - 2005’s “Lava Land” on Team AV (Volta Do Mar, Oso, Murder By Death). This album is beautifully crafted throughout. It makes an impact without being in-your-face, is progressive while maintaining a cohesive and concise path, and is enjoyable even if math rock isn’t your thing. The only criticism I have (and a paltry one at that) is that there isn’t enough to it. Lava Land spans 6 tracks with a total of 24.5 minutes. I’ve chosen “Little Bubble, Where Are You Going?” for you folks to sample. If you dig it, the rest of the album can be found and downloaded at Sandzer-Bell’s personal website found here. In my opinion, this album is exceptional.

Salt Shaker

I’m sorry that the snare drum in this sounds so midi. It’s the closest I could find on such lazy notice.
